Despite last weekends pouring rain, we headed to Eastbourne to do a spot of Christmas shopping (please tell me I’m not the only one lagging behind this year?!) and to pick up some white voil for my bedroom windows as I’d stumbled over the curtain rail from B&Q (of all places!) the Friday before.
I’d had ideas as to what I was wanting for this room before we moved here and knew white voil would be perfect for the window as it falls so beautifully and is so delicate. In all, I ended up buying 8 metres so that it would look more full on the curtain pole and opposed to limp and lifeless.
Mother kindly sat for four hours and hemmed the whole 8 metres at the kitchen table and threaded it onto the curtain pole that afternoon (just in time for tea!). It looked beautiful – just how I’d pictured it months before.
I came across these curtain ties on the US urban outfitters website here, while in search of the perfect quilt. Shipping was $30 – not including import taxes, but I hadn’t seen any so stunning that went to well with the my curtain pole and the look I was after so I hit the “order” button after not much contemplation. Don’t they go so well with the etherealness of the curtains? So peaceful!
So, its coming together slowly – I eventually came across a quilt in the sale at Anthropologie. It wasn’t the one I’d originally had in mind to buy, but still, I think its pretty and who can complain at half the price?!
Its amazing how much brighter and lighter this room now looks with a lighter coloured carpet (goodbye black!), white walls, light coloured curtains, and a brightly coloured quilt. I notice how much more light just catches and falls upon everything in here now, even though this bedroom is at the back of the house. Colour? It makes all the difference!
Next week we are headed to Ikea to sort out storage options, and then I will finally be ready to put up the finishing pieces of wall and room decor that I brought with me from the old house.
Exciting, fresh! There isn’t anything like a brand new space to kick start motivation, inspiration and enthusiasm!
